On 12 October 2020, Hope Africa South Sudan signed a low-value grant agreement with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with support from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and is currently implementing this project known as the Peace & Community Cohesion Project (PaCC II) in Aweil East and Aweil Centre counties of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. The Peace and Community Cohesion Project will run for a period of one year. From 12th October 2020 to 30th September 2021.
The Peace and Community Cohesion project, PaCC II focuses on establishing social infrastructures and structures that reduce conflicts and promote peaceful co-existence among the local communities through building on local peace initiatives and focusing on the conflict reduction and sustained peace that result in harmony and social cohesion.
Consultative meetings with the concerned stakeholders in preparation of the traditional dances organized in Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on 20 November 2020
In Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East county, Social cohesion remains a challenge whereby most of the peaceful activities are not always organized for the women and girls in these counties of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State. Women and girls have been given low attentions since the outbreak of the 2013 and 2016 wars respectively and this has led to trauma and lack of peace initiatives in the local communities of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State and South Sudan in general. With the partnership of HASS-UNDP through KOICA, Hope Africa South Sudan will work closely with the women and girls in Malual Baai Payam to organize traditional dances.
In preparation for this event, Hope Africa South Sudan in partnership with United Nations Development Programme, UNDP through Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA conducted a one-day consultative meeting among 20 concerned stakeholders in Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East county. This was done to allow the communities to know the objectives of the activity, PaCC and HASS interventions in Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East county.
Objectives
- To inform 100 women (50 girls) on the social cohesion importance and peaceful co-existence amongst the communities in Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East County.
- To inform the local authorities such as the Payam Administrator, women peace committees, Youth leader, paramount chief of Malual Baai payam on the Peace and Community cohesion project and its objectives.
- To select the project beneficiaries of Malual Baai payam of Aweil East county under HASS-UNDP programming for the social cultural events and the small income generating activities of 100 women (50 girls).

Traditional dance for Peace & Community Cohesion for Women and girls

In response to this, on 5th December 2020, Hope Africa South Sudan (HASS) in partnership with United Nations Development Programme, UNDP through funding from KOICA conducted a traditional dance for peace and community cohesion under the theme: women and girls’ togetherness for peace.

The Traditional dances were conducted to provide an engagement and interactions between the women and girls in Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East county

HASS planned and organized a traditional dance for peace and community cohesion for women and girls to enhance social cohesion amongst the women and girls of the communities within Malual Baai Payam, Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

The objective of the Traditional dance for Peace & Community Cohesion
To promote social cohesion among women and girls and enhance their participation in the social-cultural events in Malual Baai Payam of Aweil East county.
Marathon Run
In Aweil Centre County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, women and girls experience violent conflicts over the few available resources including water points, and low participation in local peace processes such as inter-communal dialogues between Dinka, Luo and Missseriya/ Rezeigat nomads in Aweil Cluster. To reduce communal conflicts over water points and enhance their participation in local peace processes.
On 19 February 2021, HASS in partnership with UNDP through support from KOICA planned and organized a marathon competition that mobilized 100 women (5o girls) in Aweil Centre County to disseminate messages about peaceful co-existence and encourage women and girls to participate in local peace processes. The marathon provided a space to enhance interactions among women and girls that potentially strengthened their relationships to promote peaceful co-existence and participation in local peace processes in Aweil town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State
The main object of this activity was to promote peace and social cohesion through interactions and disseminating messages on peaceful co-existence during marathon competitions for women and girls in the Aweil town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
