
On 27-28 2021 July in Aroyo Payam, Aweil Centre County, Hope Africa South Sudan in partnership with UNDP through support from KOICA conducted public lectures on the roles of women in local peace and governance processes in Aroyo Payam, Aweil Centre county of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State.
Activity justification
Hope Africa South Sudan being a Humanitarian National NGO that is legally registered in South Sudan is implementing the Peace and Community Cohesion Project, PaCC2 in partnership with United Nations Development Programme, UNDP through donations from Korea International Cooperation Agency.
The Peace and Community Cohesion project, PaCC2 focuses on establishing social infrastructures and structures that reduce conflicts and promote peaceful co-existence among the local communities through building on local peace initiatives and focusing on the conflict reduction and sustained peace that results in harmony and social cohesion. In Aweil East and Aweil Centre Counties, women participation is very low in the local peace and governance processes.
For instance, in the June 2021 cattle post-migration conference held in Wanyjok, Aweil East County, there were only 3 women out of 62 participants and their participation was very low. The main reason for the public lectures was to create awareness on the importance of women participation in the local peace and governance processes in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
Women participation is therefore critical towards the realization of peace and social cohesion. Hope Africa South Sudan in partnership with United Nations Development Programme through support from Korea International Cooperation Agency conducted public lectures to strengthened women participation in the local peace processes and governance at the lower levels of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and advocate for women participation through conducting advocacy engagements with the local county stakeholders such as the County Commissioners, Executive Directors, Payam administrators and the State line ministries in Aroyo Payam of Aweil centre counties Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
HASS targeted 54 women (11 men) during the public lectures organized on Women participation in local peace and governance processes in Aroyo Payam, Aweil Centre county of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
