In Aweil East County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, women’s participation is very low in the local peace and governance processes. For instance, in the June 2021 cattle post-migration conference held in Wanyjok, Aweil East County, there were only 3 women out of 62 participants and their participation was very low.
The main reason for the public lectures created awareness on the importance of women’s participation in the local peace and governance processes in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. Women’s participation is therefore critical towards the realization of peace and social cohesion.
Hope Africa South Sudan in partnership with United Nations Development Programme through support from Korea International Cooperation Agency conducted public lectures to strengthened women participation in the local peace processes and governance at the lower levels of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and advocate for women participation through conducting advocacy engagements with the local authority stakeholders such as the County Commissioners, Executive Directors, Payam administrators in Malualkon of Aweil East County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
HASS targeted 50 men (25 women) during the public lectures organized on Women’s participation in local peace and governance processes in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
